TMP Article In Remembrance of Rich McLaughlin
CharretteCenter lost a dear friend early this month as Rich McLaughlin passed away after a bout with cancer. Rich was a leader in bringing public participation into the planning and design process through the use of charrettes and the development of his citizen visioning tool, the Neighborhood Modeling System. He was instrumental in the design of some of the most successful urban infill and new neighborhood developments in Minnesota, including Excelsior & Grand in St. Louis Park and Cloverfield in Chaska. Rich was also an active member of the Minnesota Design Team and he offered his expertise to small Minnesota communities as a volunteer team member and team leader on numerous occasions. Rich was an active contributor to CharretteCenter.net, taught at the University of Minnesota and visited local high schools as a special guest teacher as he continuously worked to help inform people about their role in the design of quality living environments. Rich will be missed as a man who cared deeply about people and the vitality and success of their communities.
