The Charrette Team, assembled by Chico based development group Heritage Partners, was led by Opticos Design form Berkeley and led in design by Leon Krier. The team produced two options for the neighborhood. One was based on the possiblilty of mitigating a meadow foam habitat off site, the other maintained the protected area along the north side of the proposed development.
Hertitage Partners rented a large retail space on Main Street in downtown, formerly a department store and sporting goods store. With floor to ceiling windows along the west (3rd St.) side of the building, the designers were in constant view of the passing pedestrian and auto traffic. The glass front doors openning to Main Street were open to the public from 10:30 in the morning until 10:30 at night every day so that residents could come into the studio whenever it fit into their schedule, and view the works in progress, fill out a comment form, or talk to the designers. |
